Manfred Fuchs is best known as a successful entrepreneur and collector, but his passion extends far beyond that: as a dedicated painter, he has been involved in the arts since his youth and is highly creative in painting, drawing and sculpture. Thus, his entrepreneurial career has been followed by a career as an artist with a broad, diverse body of work and acclaimed exhibitions.
The works featured in our exhibition reflect his in-depth study of his role models, such as Sam Francis, Jackson Pollock and Karel Appel, yet they also reveal his own distinctive style. Eager to experiment, the artist works not only on canvas but also uses work clothes, painter’s fleece and everyday objects as a medium. Using acrylic, varnish and spray paint, he creates abstract compositions through rapid brushstrokes, gradients and drippings which, enhanced by black and white accents, generate depth and space through colour alone. The titles of his paintings refer to impressions from his travels, which he records in sketchbooks. His décollages and collages are equally impressive: inspired by artists of the 1950s and 1960s, he uses torn layers from advertising columns as pictorial elements. With their typographic structures, these works appear more graphic and striking, yet they also allow the viewer room for their own interpretations.
A share of the proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to the Skulpturenpark Heidelberg.
