Herbert Mehler is an internationally renowned sculptor whose large-scale sculptures can be found in public spaces not only in Germany but also in Italy, Slovenia, Greece and Korea, and who has participated in numerous international exhibitions, sculpture biennials and projects since 1985.
His sculptures are characterised by high technical quality and a distinctive visual language. The works in CORTEN steel represent the culmination and result of his long-standing development as a sculptor, which, in terms of content, navigates the tension between organic forms and growth based on geometric dimensions and numbers.
In their physical presence, Mehler’s sculptures combine the hard, durable material of steel with the warm surface appearance and velvety texture of rust marks which, when exposed to the elements, lend the material a unique effect. The balance between the meditative, calm, flowing movement of the sculptures and the lively rhythm created by opposing movements and rotations generates a visually perceptible energy that communicates with the viewer.
