At this year’s ART COLOGNE, two extraordinary artistic personalities come together in a fascinating dialogue: the master of Surrealism, Max Ernst (1891–1976), meets the contemporary Korean artist Chun Kwang Young (b. 1944).
At first glance, their artistic approaches appear to be completely different. Yet on closer inspection, surprising parallels emerge. Although the two artists come from different eras and are rooted in different cultural contexts, they are united by an approach to materials, forms and textures that is as precise as it is experimental. Their pronounced spirit of innovation and extraordinary technical mastery give their works an unmistakable expressiveness.
The juxtaposition of these two positions opens up a multifaceted dialogue between the historical avant-garde and contemporary art.
