Beate Debus – Skulpturen im Botanischen Garten Jena

July 2 – October 22, 2026. Jena, Germany.

The title of the exhibition, GEWACHSEN UND GEGOSSEN, contains an ironic allusion to the exhibition venue and the creative process of artist Beate Debus (Dermbach/Rhön). Using naturally grown tree trunks, the sculptor creates sculptures that she then has cast in bronze. From July through October, these “grown and cast” sculptures will be integrated into the lush vegetation of the Jena Botanical Garden, which is lovingly tended by gardeners. The sculptures appear individually or in groups. Their movements are dance-like—exuberant or introverted, intertwined or drifting apart. Through the gesture and rhythm of the sculptural line, Beate Debus succeeds in capturing and making visible the interpersonal and the spiritual.
